Harnett County EMS has existed since 1978 providing emergency care to the citizens of Harnett County. Harnett County EMS has also been available to back up any and all of the contract EMS agencies throughout the county and provide non-emergency transport care for the hospitals, nursing homes, and the invalid citizens of Harnett County. When Harnett County EMS began, all employees were certified at the Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (Old EMT-B) level. They were able to provide only basic life support to the patients who were transported. Currently, our highly trained prehospital professionals are certified in the EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic levels of care.

The Harnett County EMS System utilizes both Emergency and Non-Emergency Services to fulfill our Mission Statement, which says, "Harnett County EMS Division mission is to coordinate, develop, improve, and maintain a comprehensive and dynamic emergency medical system to prevent and reduce premature death and disability. The system shall be integrated into the entire healthcare network. The emergency medical services system will ensure prompt, effective, and unimpeded service to all residents and visitors of Harnett County."
