Harnett County Board of Commissioners Honors Former Commissioner Beatrice Bailey Hill on her 100th birthday

During the Harnett County Board of Commissioners Meeting on Monday, April 21, 2025, the Board honored former Commissioner Beatrice Bailey Hill in celebration of her 100th birthday.
The room rose to standing ovation as the Board presented Hill with a proclamation recognizing her centennial milestone and her many contributions to the County.
The proclamation read, Through all her years and service, Ms. Hill has demonstrated leadership, wisdom, compassion, community spirit and been a voice for the people of Harnett County.
Commissioner Hill made history in 1990 when she became the first African American and the first woman elected to serve on the Harnett County Board of Commissioners. She served six consecutive terms, holding roles as Vice Chair and Interim Chair of the board.
Dedicating 24 years to public service, her leadership and dedication left an indelible mark on Harnett County.
“I would like to thank the Board,” said Hill. “Thank you for all that you have done for Harnett County and this state. It is because of you and the time that you put in that makes Harnett County what it is today.”
She shared memories of her time on board and lightened the room with remarks that drew laughter and smiles.
