Animal Services Temporarily Limits Intake Due to Increased Animal Volume

Thursday, February 26, 2026

Due to a recent high volume of animal seizures and surrenders, effective today, Thursday, February 28, 2026, Harnett County Animal Services will be limiting the intake of new animals for a minimum of 30 days.

To ensure that every animal in our care receives the medical attention and housing they require, we must prioritize our existing animal population at the Animal Shelter.

What this means for the Community:

Intake Restrictions: We are unable to accept owner surrenders or non-emergency stray intakes at this time.

Emergency Situations: Public safety concerns or injured animals should still be reported to Harnett County Field Services (Animal Control) at (910) 893-0800 or dial 911.

Duration: These limitations will remain in place for at least 30 days, or until the legal and care requirements of the current investigation allow for additional space.

We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we work alongside law enforcement to ensure the safety and well-being of these animals.
