Unearth a Story with Harnett County Public Library System’s Summer Reading Program

Summer Reading Program detailsHarnett County Public Library System invites you to Unearth a Story this summer during the 2026 Summer Reading Program, beginning June 1 to July 24, 2026!
 
The library system is offering a wide variety of FREE events for all ages, including live performances, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math (STEAM) activities, story times, crafts, and more. Each library location will host spectacular performances and programs throughout the summer, including:
  • Grow on the Go: Play, learn, and grow with Harnett County Partnership for Children’s mobile play program.
  • Big Bang Boom: Enjoy a unique blend of “kindie” music.
  • Grey Seal Puppets: Watch puppets perform “A Tangle of Tales.”
  • Dana Hill: Take part in an interactive magic and illusion show.
  • Rancho Chikiito: Interact with farm animals including bunnies and chickens.
Families can look forward to STEAM labs, art workshops, game nights, movie showings, and unique teen and adult programs including craft nights, escape rooms, gardening workshops, book clubs, and more.
 
You are also invited to join the Summer Reading Challenge and earn prizes just for reading!
Pick up a reading log at any library branch, track your minutes, and claim prizes along the way.
Read 800 minutes this summer to complete the challenge and be entered to win one of our awesome grand prizes:
  • Early Literacy (ages 0–5): Toniebox
  • School Age (ages 6–12): 3D Printing Pen
  • Teens (ages 13–18): Kindle Fire
  • Adults (ages 18+): Kindle Paperwhite
Join us on Saturday, June 6, at 9:30 a.m. at the Main Library in Lillington for our Summer Reading Kick-off Party featuring a bounce house, a rock wall, Pelican’s SnoBalls, face painting, and more!
 
The fun continues all summer long with programs happening at library branches throughout the County.
