Harnett County Offers Free Tax Assistance Through Library and Division on Aging

Free tax services are available from January 13 through April 17

Harnett County, NC- Harnett County is excited to announce two Harnett County departments are partnering with community organizations to offer free tax preparation services. These initiatives aim to make tax season more accessible for Harnett County residents and adjacent counties. Services are provided by Internal Revenue Service (IRS) certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers. Most returns will be processed on the spot, so please plan to allow approximately one hour for completion.

Harnett County Division on Aging

In partnership with Central NC Tax Assistance, a 501c3 non-profit organization operating for over 25 years, the Harnett County Division on Aging hosts certified volunteers through VITA to offer free tax services to residents who qualify by appointment only. 

Location: Coats Senior Center, 214 East Park Street, Coats, NC

  • Dates: January 28 – April 15 (Tuesdays)
  • Time: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
  • Appointments: Individuals must obtain an appointment by calling the Coats Senior Center at (910) 897-4616.
 

Location: Erwin Public Library, 110 W. F Street, Erwin, NC

  • Dates: January 13 through April 17 (Wednesdays and Thursdays)
  • Time: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
  • Appointments: Individuals must obtain an appointment by calling the Harnett County Division on Aging at (910) 893-7578.

Harnett County Public Library System

In partnership with Cambell University’s School of Business, the Harnett County Main Library branch hosts VITA preparers to assist residents with their taxes. Tax assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and no appointments are required.

Location: Resource Center and Library Training Room, 455 McKinney Parkway, Lillington, NC

  • Dates: February 6 – April 3 (Thursdays only)
  • Time: 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Volunteers can complete the most standard tax returns, though some forms and schedules may not be completed. No services will be available on March 6 due to Campbell University’s Spring Break.

Free Federal tax forms will be available on-site. State tax forms can be obtained by calling the NC Department of Revenue at 1-877-252-3052 or visiting http://www.dor.state.nc.us.

Those seeking tax preparation services must have a photo ID (and photo ID for the spouse, if applicable), social security card (or ITIN) for each person on the tax return (including dependents), and all taxpayers’ tax forms.
