National Archives
The National Archives/National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) is where the military records are kept. This is where you would request DD-214s and military records. You can also find Ship Logbooks, military wars, and other items that pertaining to the military history.
On July 12, 1973, a disastrous fire at the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) destroyed approximately 16 to 18 million Official Military Personnel Files (OMPF). The records affected are:
- Army Personnel discharge November 1, 1912 to January 1, 1960 with estimated loss of 80%
- Air Force Personnel discharge September 25, 1947 to January 1, 1964 (with names alphabetically after Hubbard, James E.) with estimated loss of 75%
